A Very General Overview of Nesting Standards in Thematic Unit Planning

Nesting standards is not another classroom gimmick nor is it a how-to script that teachers mechanically follow. The most important aspect of nesting standards as a method for empowering students and raising test scores is full and complete teacher understanding and ownership of the professional knowledge and legitimate research that illuminates it and informs it. The vision of nesting standards in thematic unit planning is based upon the central-most professional development principle that if educators themselves are not empowered intellectually and professionally, they cannot, in turn, empower their learners.
