Sec Ed 951: Interpersonal Communications for Educators
Randy L. Hoover, Instructor

Assignment #1: Communications Log

Your communications log will be a record of your own efforts at interpersonal communications occurring during the period of the course. The log should represent an effort to critically examine your experiences communicating with others using appropriate principles concepts and ideas from class and the readings. The log will include entries from as many communication events as reasonably possible during the quarter.
The object of the log is for you to:
1. Describe the communication event
2. Identify its significance (no matter how mundane it may seem)
3. Use course principles (listed on syllabus) to illuminate the event
4. Reflect on the event

The Communications log is much like a journal and little like a diary. It needs to communicate to me that you are critically examining the communications process and that you can transcend the immediacy of the situation in retrospect to develop greater competence and effectiveness in your communication style.
The log need not be typed... But, please remember that I have to be able to read it to evaluate your work.
The log will be due the last regular class of the quarter.
Please mark at least 5 log entries that you prefer I read. I will read selected other entries randomly.
