Extra Academic Opportunities Across Presage Score, Percent Passing, and Actual Performance
Extra Academic Opportunity is an EMIS variable that represents extracurricular activities that are academic in nature such as French Club, Debate Team, Math Club, and similar school groups. The graph of this variable across the Presage Scores shows that the more advantaged the district, the more extra academic opportunities there are. The graph across OPT percent passing is consistant with what we would expect given the significant correlation between the Presage Score and district OPT performance. The association of extra academic opportunity with actual performance shown in the last graph is also visible, indicating it to be a possible factor in explaining the higher-than-expected performance of such districts.
